Local wheat purchasing season extended, farmers’ dues to be paid

The General Authority of Food Security has announced the end of the local wheat purchasing season for the year 1445/1446AH “2024AD”, with a net quantity of 1,166,787 tons, valued at approximately two billion riyals for this season.

The Authority’s Governor, Engineer Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Al Faris, explained that the Authority has completed the procedures for receiving and disbursing payments to farmers for the local wheat through the electronic platform “My Harvest.” This process includes booking delivery appointments, selecting the Authority’s delivery branch, completing the delivery, and closing the account.

He noted that local wheat is one of the three sources on which the Authority relies to secure the Kingdom’s wheat needs, in addition to the share allocated to Saudi investors abroad, which accounts for 20% of the Kingdom’s annual wheat consumption. The Authority also conducts international tenders where major international grain trading companies compete, meeting the Authority’s qualifications. This is part of the Authority’s strategy to diversify its sources of procurement.

According to data from the “My Harvest” platform, a total of 3,794 farmers delivered wheat for this season, out of a total of 4,277 registered farmers on the platform, marking an 11.3% increase from the previous year. The delivery was done by 89% of the total registered farmers. Among the regions, Hail led in local wheat delivery with a net quantity of 243,568 tons, followed by Al-Qassim with a net quantity of 235,976 tons, Riyadh with a net quantity of 146,653 tons, Al-Jouf with a net quantity of 140,566 tons, Al-Kharj with a net quantity of 118,009 tons, Tabuk with a net quantity of 115,753 tons, Al-Ahsa with a net quantity of 82,643 tons, and finally, Wadi Al-Dawasir with a net quantity of 83,619 tons.

The General Authority of Food Security purchases local wheat in accordance with Cabinet Decision No. 439 dated 6/6/1445AH, which approved the Authority’s purchase of wheat from farmers for a period of five years, not exceeding one and a half million tons per year.
