Saudi Arabia reaffirms commitment to Chemical Weapons Convention and emphasizes the importance of full implementation

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s permanent delegation to the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), led by Prince Jalawi bin Turki bin Jalawi, Acting Chargé d’Affaires of the Saudi Embassy in the Netherlands, participated in the Executive Council meetings of the 108th session in The Hague.

The delegation presented a statement reaffirming the Kingdom’s commitment to the provisions of the Chemical Weapons Convention and the importance of its full implementation. It emphasized that the use of chemical weapons is a crime and a violation of the Convention and international law.

The delegation expressed support for Palestine’s request for the organization to monitor the situation in Palestine. It also welcomed the developments regarding the Syrian chemical file, stressing the importance of cooperation among the States Parties and providing necessary support to both the organization and Syria to resolve the issue conclusively.

Furthermore, the delegation welcomed the conclusions of the global conference on the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, held in Rabat last year.
