The Islamic Military Alliance to Fight Terrorism organized a workshop today titled “Enhancing Community Resilience against Extremist Ideologies.” The workshop was attended by the Secretary-General of the alliance, representatives from member countries, as well as experts in security and counterterrorism, including Colonel Hassan Johnson Conti and Major Mukhtar Smahoti Tejan from Sierra Leone.
The workshop emphasized the importance of building resilient communities to combat extremism through a comprehensive approach that combines economic empowerment, governance improvement, and social cohesion. Sessions also addressed strategic topics such as the challenges facing community resilience, the impact of weak governance on the spread of extremist ideologies, and the implications of climate change on social stability.
Quality interventions were made by representatives of member countries, each highlighting successful experiences in fostering community resilience and combating extremism in their respective nations.
A dedicated session was allocated for open discussions to exchange perspectives and ideas, with participants presenting practical strategies to enhance community flexibility.
The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including enhancing collective cooperation among member states to develop sustainable programs to combat extremism, launching comprehensive awareness campaigns to highlight the dangers of extremist ideologies, with a focus on education and vocational training. Additionally, effective policies were suggested to ensure the sustainability of efforts in countering extremism.
Participants reiterated the pivotal role of the Islamic Military Alliance in supporting the efforts of member countries by providing technical and advisory support, and coordinating regional efforts to combat extremism.
