Yemen Reconstruction Program Boosts Water Resources in Aden

The Saudi Program for Yemen Development and Reconstruction is implementing sustainable developmental projects and initiatives to contribute to improving infrastructure and basic services in Yemen. The program supports eight vital sectors, including the water sector, through projects and initiatives that have enhanced water resource management, diversified water sources, and improved water distribution efficiency in urban and rural areas.

One of the projects executed by the program to enhance water availability in Aden Governorate is the rehabilitation project of the Mansoura water field. This project aims to address water supply shortages by rehabilitating 10 wells supported by solar-powered pumps powered by 1350 solar panels covering an area of 6540 square meters. This initiative aims to increase the productivity in the field, expand sources of safe and sustainable fresh water, and facilitate access to it. By integrating modern technologies, best developmental practices, and environmental sustainability considerations, such as renewable energy systems for operating water pumps based on demand, the program is able to reduce operational costs and improve water resource management, as seen in the Mansoura field project.

The program also conducts training programs alongside its water sector projects to empower community members with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively manage water resources. Additionally, they receive training in using solar energy technologies and building their capacities in this field.

These water sector projects are part of a total of 264 projects and initiatives supporting eight vital sectors, including education, health, transportation, energy, water, agriculture, fishery resources, developmental programs, and government capacity building and support in various Yemeni governorates.
