Saudi Arabia Vows to Heighten Focus on Human Rights Situation in Palestine and Other Occupied Arab Territories

Saudi Arabia emphasized the importance of paying close attention to the human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories. The country called for rejecting any actions that undermine this, aiming for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with its capital in East Jerusalem.
This statement was made by Her Excellency the President of the Human Rights Commission and head of the Saudi delegation, Dr. Hala bint Muzaid Al-Tuwaijri, during the high-level segment of the 58th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
She highlighted that Saudi Arabia has witnessed various reforms and developments in human rights at all levels under the vision of Saudi Arabia 2030. This vision focuses on human rights principles, including equality and non-discrimination in the enjoyment of the right to development, empowerment of women, youth, and special groups such as persons with disabilities, the elderly, and migrant workers. It also aims to achieve an ideal quality of life for all, enhancing the efficiency of hosting major global events by prioritizing human rights.
The President of the Human Rights Commission further explained that the Kingdom has worked on enhancing its legislative system, contributing to the development of a robust legal framework that protects and promotes human rights. Numerous laws have been amended and enacted, resulting in a diverse community in the Kingdom which includes more than 15 million foreigners from over 60 nationalities, constituting over 44% of the population, enjoying their rights without discrimination and with the highest levels of protection.
She underscored that Saudi Arabia has spared no effort in promoting international peace and security, grounded in its firm values and commitment to upholding the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter. This includes supporting just causes and seeking to resolve crises, such as the Ukrainian crisis, as evidenced by the mediation of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, resulting in the release of several prisoners in the prisoner exchange process between Russia and Ukraine.
In promoting respect for human rights globally, the President emphasized the necessity of maintaining strong and cohesive societies by combating practices that harm entire communities, such as religious disrespect, hate speech, and the importance of family preservation.
Finally, she concluded by expressing Saudi Arabia’s keenness to enhance its close cooperation with UN mechanisms for human rights, emphasizing the importance of respecting diverse values and refraining from imposing selected mono values on societies. It is crucial to recognize cultural and civilizational diversity and invest in protecting and promoting human rights.
