King Salman’s Relief Agency signs 3 cooperation agreements for medical, environmental, and social aid in Yemen, Somalia, and Ukraine.

During the fourth Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid signed a cooperation agreement with the World Health Organization to implement the second phase of a malaria prevention and control project in Yemen, totaling $12 million. The agreement was signed by Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah from the Royal Diwan and Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the WHO.

The project includes various activities such as distributing 1.3 million insecticide-treated bed nets, indoor residual spraying in over 500,000 homes, conducting other spraying campaigns with different types of insecticides, providing medicines for malaria patients, and securing 1 million rapid diagnostic tests. Additionally, the project will support the Yemeni national program with necessary equipment to combat the epidemic.

This agreement reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment, through the King Salman Center for Relief, to support international efforts in fighting infectious diseases worldwide. This initiative aims to promote sustainable agriculture and empower farmers in Yemen. The project targets beneficiaries in Ma’rib, Hadhramaut, Al-Mahrah, Shabwah, and Socotra, directly benefiting 3,000 individuals and indirectly benefiting 21,000 more people.

The agreement focuses on supporting the resilience of farmers and fishermen by providing agricultural inputs, tools, fishing boats, training in best agricultural practices, irrigation techniques, and rehabilitating farmlands affected by floods. It also includes enhancing animal husbandry by distributing goats and beehives, as well as training in beekeeping and livestock rearing practices.

Another agreement signed by the King Salman Center for Relief was with the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization to improve access to sanitation facilities in refugee camps in Somalia, benefiting 20,070 individuals directly and 5,930 indirectly. The project aims to enhance health, hygiene practices, and socio-economic development in these communities.

Furthermore, a cooperation agreement was signed with the United Nations Population Fund to support vulnerable populations in Ukraine, benefitting 49,360 individuals with a total of $5,154,000. The project aims to provide life-saving response and prevention services related to gender-based violence in affected areas, including psychological support, safe spaces for women and girls, economic empowerment opportunities, and community-based psychosocial support services.

In conclusion, these agreements demonstrate Saudi Arabia’s dedication, through the King Salman Center for Relief, to support humanitarian projects in various countries, addressing critical issues such as disease prevention, agricultural development, refugee assistance, and gender-based violence protection. Through such initiatives, the Kingdom aims to positively impact the lives of vulnerable populations and contribute to global humanitarian efforts.
