Inauguration of Modern Facilities at the International Museum of Prophetic Biography and Islamic Civilization
His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Medina and Chairman of the Medina Development Authority, officially inaugurated the new facilities at the International Museum of Prophetic Biography during a visit to the museum’s location adjacent to the Prophet’s Mosque. His attendance was marked by the presence of Dr. Muhammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, Secretary-General of the Muslim World League and Supervisor of the Prophetic Biography Museums.
The establishment of the museum’s series underscores Saudi Arabia’s commitment to being the foremost authority in the preservation and promotion of the Holy Quran and the Prophet’s Sunnah. This project reflects the significant support and interest shown by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, as well as His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, both of whom are dedicated to the noble mission of protecting and spreading Islamic teachings.
The recently opened facilities include the "Taybah: Lights and Artifacts" wing, the "Ithaaf" digital platform, and comprehensive encyclopedias on the prophetic biography and the Noble Mosque. These initiatives are supervised by the Muslim World League and receive considerable backing from the Medina Region Governorate and the Medina Development Authority. During the visit, Prince Salman explored the "Taybah" exhibit, which offers a meticulously documented presentation of the Holy City through more than 20 diverse sections. These displays spotlight the significant archaeological, historical, and social landmarks of Medina during the era of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The exhibit features a panoramic view of the Prophet’s chamber and a model of the original structure of the Prophet’s Mosque, along with a tent representing Prophetic medicine. Visitors can also experience a daily routine of the Prophet (peace be upon him) through an interactive journey that replicates events from his life.
In alignment with contemporary digital transformation, Prince Salman also launched the "Ithaaf" digital platform—a modern interactive portal designed to enable visitors to delve into the Prophetic biography through virtual tours. This platform grants access to a foundational scholarly library and a collection of more than 350 works dedicated to the Holy Quran and the Sunnah, which are available in several of the world’s most spoken languages. Users can also stay updated on museum events and related initiatives, enhancing the dissemination of the Prophetic biography through innovative and modern means.
Through these advances, the museum aims to provide an enriching educational experience that not only honors the historical significance of Medina but also aligns with modern educational practices, making the Islamic heritage more accessible to a global audience. The vision is to create a space that nurtures a deeper understanding of Islamic teachings, fosters engagement with the Prophet’s life, and highlights the transformative impact of his message.
Overall, the inauguration of these facilities signifies a considerable step towards the modernization and contextualization of Islamic history, reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s pivotal role in leading and promoting scholarly works and cultural heritage related to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islamic civilization at large. The strategic collaboration between local authorities and international organizations reflects a commitment to preserving the legacy and heritage of the Islamic faith while promoting its values globally.
