Makkah to host second edition of conference ‘Building Bridges Between Islamic Sects’ under the patronage of the King starting tomorrow

Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the second edition of the international conference “Building Bridges Between Islamic Sects” will kick off tomorrow in Mecca. The conference is organized by the Muslim World League and will be attended by prominent Muslim scholars from different sects and schools of thought in over 90 countries.
The theme of this edition of the conference, titled “Towards an Effective Islamic Conciliation,” represents a significant step towards Islamic unity. It aims to move beyond repetitive dialogues to establish practical programs that foster unity among Islamic sects, coordinate positions to address common challenges and risks, and lay the groundwork for a systematic approach that will manifest in initiatives and projects that promote moderation and refute sectarian rhetoric and practices.
The first edition of the conference and its comprehensive document embodied the wisdom and expansiveness of Islam. It laid down the foundation for coordinating efforts among Islamic moderate forces, despite their different sects, for the greater good of the Islamic nation and to confront extremist and extreme forces that have tarnished the image of our noble religion. The work in this edition of the conference continues on the same unchanging principle, branching out into the heavens where the knowledgeable congregates, within the vicinity of their common qibla, to join hands towards broader horizons that embrace solidarity and cooperation, moving past past apprehensions towards the realm of Islamic brotherhood and its noble etiquette.
The Muslim World League expressed profound gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the scholars of the nation who have traveled from around the world to participate in the conference. They thanked King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, and His Royal Highness, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister – may God protect them – for their ongoing and future efforts in the service of Islam and Muslims, and for strengthening their solidarity and raising their status.
