Islamic Development Bank and Algeria Strengthen Cooperation in Energy Sector

Minister of State for Energy and Mines in Algeria, Mohamed Arkab, met with Dr. Mohammad Sulaiman Al-Jasser, the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Group, during his official visit to Algeria. The meeting was attended by the State Secretaries responsible for mines and renewable energy. They discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two parties, focusing on energy transition projects and regional integration initiatives.

Dr. Al-Jasser expressed the IsDB’s readiness to provide financial and insurance support, as well as funding for various energy projects, including partnerships between the public and private sectors in the field of renewable energy. He praised the deep-rooted relations between Algeria and the IsDB, especially in the energy sector, which represents 7.8% of the bank’s total financing in Algeria.

He commended Algeria’s progress in developing infrastructure for electricity and gas production, transmission, and distribution, as well as efforts to enhance integration with sub-Saharan African countries to expand electricity coverage. Dr. Al-Jasser reaffirmed the IsDB’s commitment to continue supporting Algeria in energy transition projects and developing strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors in the field of renewable energy to achieve sustainable development and enhance energy security in the region.
