Islamic Alliance Launches Workshop on “Rehabilitating Extremists: The Reality and Challenges” in Nouakchott
A workshop on “Rehabilitation of Extremists: Reality and Challenges” organized by the Islamic Military Alliance against Terrorism kicked off in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott today. The workshop will continue until April 23, 2025, with the presence of Dr. Abdullah bin Saeed Al-Duh, representing the Islamic Alliance and serving as the workshop’s scientific supervisor. Also in attendance was Colonel Sheikh Mohamed Al-Amin Bilal, Director of External Relations at the Ministry of Defense, Veterans, and Martyrs’ Affairs in the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, along with several top officials, experts, and Islamic affairs representatives.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Duh, the workshop’s scientific supervisor, emphasized the importance of rehabilitating extremists and integrating them into society, emphasizing that ideology can be countered with ideology. In turn, Colonel Sheikh Mohamed Al-Amin Bilal discussed the significant challenges posed by terrorism globally and how this phenomenon threatens national security, stressing that combating terrorism is a shared responsibility.
The workshop’s first day included discussions on the process of rehabilitation and social integration for individuals involved in terrorist activities, as well as an overview of the various challenges faced in this regard.
This workshop is part of the Islamic Military Alliance’s program to combat terrorism in five countries, including Mauritania, Niger, Mali, Chad, and Burkina Faso, encompassing 239 training and awareness activities targeting ideological, media, counter-terrorism financing, and military aspects.
